People living in midwestern Ontario and around Windsor are being told to stay away from large bodies of water.
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and the Essex Region Conservation Authority are each issuing water safety statements since the areas are expected to see a lot of rain.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for midwestern Ontario as around 40 mm could fall Saturday and Sunday. The Windsor area is forecasted to get between 20 and 30 mm. Mix this with the snow currently melting due to the warm weather and water levels in rivers and streams are expected to rise.
“While significant flooding is not expected at this time, levels in streams and rivers may reach or exceed bankfull conditions resulting in some minor flooding in low-lying areas,” read the statement from the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority.
Each also believes these conditions will stay for several days.
They are recommending all municipal officials to regularly check drainage systems and low-lying and flood prone roads.
