The Launch Pad Skills Training & Technology Centre in Hanover has announced its immediate closure following a decision made during a January 7, 2025 board meeting. The not-for-profit organization, which has operated since 2015, cited financial pressures, rising costs, and regulatory challenges as key factors behind the dissolution.
Launch Pad has served over 2,000 youth and partnered with 30 local businesses during its decade of operation, offering skills development programs that have relied on community donations and grants. Despite their efforts, the board determined that maintaining operations was no longer feasible.
In an interview with CKNXNewsToday.ca, Launch Pad Board Chair Adam Olivero described the decision as incredibly difficult. “The board of directors certainly didn’t take this lightly,” Olivero said. “Like many non-profits, we’ve faced financial pressures over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, those pressures have added up to the point where we had no choice but to cease operations.”
The challenges, Olivero explained, were exacerbated by the pandemic, which created ongoing difficulties in securing grants and other funding. “It’s one of those things that happens with the ebbs and flows of the financial markets,” he said.
All programs have been cancelled as of January 15, with full reimbursements to participants, even for partially completed courses. Renters of the space will also be refunded.
Reflecting on Launch Pad’s legacy, Olivero expressed immense gratitude to the community. “Thank you to all the donors, sponsors, former board members, volunteers, instructors, and staff who poured their hearts and souls into Launch Pad over the past 10 years,” he said. “We made a difference in Hanover by helping youth explore trades and skilled labor, and we’re incredibly proud of that legacy.”
The board expressed gratitude to donors, staff, and volunteers for their contributions, which helped deliver vital services to the community over the years.
