The Hanover Fire Department responded to over 250 emergencies last year, the largest number of responses in the department's recorded history.
According to its 2024 Annual Report, which was released this week, Hanover Fire responded to 214 calls within Hanover alone, nearly 40 per cent of them for medical assistance. The second-greatest number of calls were false alarms, making up nearly a quarter of all incidents.
The department also responded to 42 calls from West Grey, Brockton and the surrounding area.
When it came to actual fires, the department responded to 11 calls, seven for structure fires and four outdoors. There was an an estimated loss of $158,500 associated with those fires. The department also responded to nine pre-fire incidents.
The Town of Hanover said the average response rate of HFD to emergency scenes dropped to just over 6 minutes and 29 seconds, for calls within town.
"Our firefighters and emergency personnel work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our community," said Fire Chief Jeff Dentinger in a release. "This report reflects our progress, and we remain committed to continuous improvement and service excellence."
This upcoming year will bring the grand opening of the new fire station in April.
