The annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk will proceed as planned in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Meaford, and Grey Highlands on Saturday, February 22.
However, due to current conditions, organizers have made adjustments, eliminating the 5km route. All participants are now asked to complete the 2km walk instead.
Safety remains a top priority, as some sidewalks have snow accumulation, and road closures may impact travel. Organizers urge walkers only to attend if they feel safe and to avoid driving on closed roads. Those unable to participate on Saturday, are encouraged to complete the walk at a later time when conditions improve.
"If you can safely make it to any of the events, we encourage you to joinus," said Kristy Andre, Fundraising Champion for United Way Bruce Grey. "We want people to be as safe as possible and participate in a way they're comfortable with."
Organizers are closely monitoring conditions and will provide updates as needed. Participants are encouraged to check their email, social media, or local radio stations for any further announcements.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly fundraising event aimed at supporting individuals experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in local communities.
Fundraising efforts will remain open until March 31, 2025, allowing for continued contributions to this vital cause. For more information, visit the Coldest Night of the Year website or follow event updates on social media.
