Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is alerting the public about additional recent measles exposures at two local hospitals.
Anyone who may have been exposed at the locations during the specified timeframes is advised to monitor for symptoms for 21 days.
Two exposures occurred at the Listowel Memorial Hospital Emergency Department (255 Elizabeth St E, Listowel):
-Sunday, March 23, 2025, between 1:51 p.m. and 9:58 p.m.
-Monday, March 24, 2025, between 2:13 p.m. and 8:13 p.m.
There was also an exposure at Wingham and District Hospital Emergency Department (270 Carling Terrace, Wingham):
-Sunday, March 30, 2025, between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
According to public health, measles is an airborne virus that can linger in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours, making it highly contagious. Individuals who were at these locations during the exposure periods—even briefly—should assess their vaccination status and potential risk.
People should contact HPPH at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3299 if they or a family member were at these locations and were born in or after 1970 and have not received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine, or if they are at high risk of severe illness (compromised immune system, pregnant, or under 12 months old).
Measles symptoms typically develop 7 to 21 days after exposure and include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, small white spots inside the mouth and throat (not always present), and a red, blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads downward (appears 3-7 days after initial symptoms).
Individuals with measles are contagious from four days before the rash appears until four days after. If you or a family member experience measles symptoms after a potential exposure: Report to HPPH at 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3299 and follow public
