Challenge extended.
The Township of Georgian Bluffs is calling on residents to assemble teams of friends to help clear the region of unsightly litter.
Dubbed "#TrashTagGB Community Clean-up", the initiative will run from April 22 to May 13 and see garbage cleared from ditches, roadsides, and public spaces. The clean-up dates were selected to coincide with Earth Day and Ontario’s Day of Action on Litter.
Teams that register to participate will be given free garbage bag tags so collected litter can be put out on regular collection days at no extra cost.
“This is all about how much we can get done when we work together. Now that the snow has melted, a winter’s worth of litter can be seen in the ditches. Let's get out and show a little love to the beautiful landscape we call home,” said Riel Warrilow, the township's environmental initiatives coordinator. “Be safe and have fun. Even a small clean-up effort can have a big impact.”
People taking part in the clean-up are also being encouraged to post before and after photos to social media using the hashtag TrashTagGB. It is hoped this online presence will inspire others to take action to clean up areas near them.
Teams can register at the Township Office at 177964 Grey Road 18 in Owen Sound. Tips on what to wear for the clean-up and what to do if you find a hazardous item can be found at georgianbluffs.ca/TrashTagGB.
