Three charged after RIDE program stop turns up cocaine

Three people are accused of trafficking illegal drugs after cocaine was seized from a vehicle at a sobriety checkpoint in the Municipality of Brockton.

South Bruce OPP and Hanover police were jointly conducting the RIDE program on Bruce Road 10 around 11 p.m. on Thursday when an officer detected signs of impairment from a driver who had entered the checkpoint. The driver was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further testing.

A search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of suspected cocaine, police said.

Police did not comment on the amount of cocaine seized or its estimated street value.

Two passengers were arrested following the seizure.

A 25-year-old from Montreal is charged with impaired driving, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and driving with cannabis readily available.

Two 22-year-old Kitchener men are charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

All three are schedule to appear in Walkerton court at a later date.

The same RIDE program, also led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Elmwood woman for impaired driving. Her vehicle was towed and her licence suspended, police said.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
