Huron County OPP Torch run raises thousands for Special Olympics

The recent Law Enforcement Torch Run by the Huron County OPP was a great success, raising thousands of dollars to support Special Olympics athletes.

In a media release, the OPP share that the run on June 4 managed to raise over $7,200.

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics.

This year the Huron run started at the Maitland River Community Church located on Josephine Street in Wingham. The run headed through Wingham, ending at the south end of town. Participants were then transported to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich.

After completing the final leg in Goderich participants and supporters met at McGee Motors located on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich for a celebration BBQ. A BBQ fundraiser was also held at Corrie's Foodland in Clinton on Friday, June 27.

Any person or business that is looking to donate to the Special Olympics may donate by cash or cheque made payable to "Ontario Special Olympics".

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
