Area long-term care homes get over $196K from province

Five long-term care homes in Perth and Wellington counties will share in $196,616 from the province.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced the money through the Local Priorities Fund on Thursday for West Perth Village in Mitchell, Strathcona Long Term Care in Mount Forest, Kingsway Lodge in St. Marys, and Greenwood Court and Spruce Lodge in Stratford.

"Our government continues to support seniors and their families by ensuring access to necessary services close to home,” said Rae. “Local priorities funding allows our long-term care providers to offer specialized services that keep our seniors safe, healthy, and right here in our rural communities.”

The bulk of the money is going to Spruce Lodge, which is receiving $127,496. Another $29,130 is earmarked for Kingsway Lodge, $19,950 is going to Greenwood Court, $14,051 is being allocated for Strathcona Long Term Care, and the remaining $5,988 is for West Perth Village.

The funding will be used for specialized services, equipment, and staff training which helps the care homes to admit new residents with specialized needs and continue to care for those with complex needs. Equipment purchased with the funding can range from IV equipment, bariatrics equipment bed support, bladder scanners and ECGs, as well as everyday items like slip-proof floor mats, wraparound bed rails and grab bars.

The fund was launched in 2022 with the aim of connecting seniors with the right care, while cutting down on emergency department and hospital visits.
