Owen Sound offering history, music, and movies this weekend

A weekend of free entertainment, music, and maritime history awaits in Owen Sound as the city launches its first Outdoor Movie Night of the season on Friday, July 25 at the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre.

This year’s opening film is Disney’s 2025 live-action “Snow White”, directed by Marc Webb. The film puts a modern twist on the classic fairy tale, featuring an empowered heroine, energetic musical numbers, and a fresh reimagining of the story. The site opens at 7 p.m. with kid-friendly activities and treats, and the movie will begin at dusk. Admission is free.

Adding to the excitement, moviegoers may catch a glimpse of a majestic visitor along the harbour wall: the TS Playfair Tall Ship, an 80-foot brigantine operated by Brigs Youth Sail Training. The Playfair will be docked in Owen Sound’s west harbour from July 25 to 28, offering a rare opportunity to see a traditional tall ship up close.

Free public deck tours of the TS Playfair will take place on Sunday, July 27 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. near the movie site at the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre. Built in 1973, the vessel is a living classroom, where young crew members learn teamwork, sailing skills, and life at sea.

The Community Waterfront Heritage Centre, housed in the historic 1932 CN Rail Station, will be open all weekend long. The museum showcases Owen Sound’s rich marine, rail, and industrial history, and is the last CN rail station of its kind still standing in Ontario.

The weekend caps off with TD Harbour Nights on Sunday at 7 p.m., featuring a high-energy outdoor concert by The O’Deadlys, a three-piece Celtic and traditional music group known for their crowd-pleasing performances.
