Charges laid following vehicle fire near Arthur

Wellington County OPP have laid numerous charges against a Guelph driver following a fiery crash outside of Arthur.

On July 29 at 8 a.m., police responded alongside Wellington North Fire and local first responders to a report of a vehicle that had veered off Jones Baseline, just south of Arthur.

After leaving the road, the vehicle landed in a nearby ditch and became engulfed in flames.

Emergency responders found that the driver managed to escape the vehicle prior to it catching fire. There was no one else in the vehicle and the driver was treated as a precaution by the EMS crew and did not require a hospital visit.

Following the investigation, the 26-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with careless driving and driving without a qualified driver with a G1 license. The 27-year-old owner of the vehicle was also charged with permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance and permit person with improper licence to drive motor vehicle.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph at a later date.
