Local authors take centre stage at Owen Sound Library Book Fair

The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library will celebrate local storytelling with the return of its Local Author Book Fair, set for Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25.

The two-day event, now in its second year, will feature more than 40 authors, all with ties to Grey and Bruce counties. Organizers say it’s the largest local author showcase in the region, offering readers a chance to meet writers, discover new books, and take part in family-friendly activities throughout the library.

The fair runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on both days and will occupy all levels of the library. Visitors can play a library-themed Plinko game, enter prize draws, and even win back the price of a book purchase. Anyone who shows a library card will also be entered to win a book bundle.

“The library understands the importance of highlighting authors in our community,” organizers said. The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library currently houses more than 600 works in its Local Author and Grey-Bruce Connection collection.

The spirit of the event echoes words once written by former Chief Librarian Andrew Armitage, who celebrated the growing number of local writers — from poets and historians to novelists and cookbook authors — noting that “they are your neighbours.”

The Local Author Book Fair is free to attend and open to all ages. For many of the writers taking part, it’s a chance to connect directly with readers and celebrate the thriving literary community across Grey and Bruce.
