Bruce Power hosting community sessions on proposed Bruce C Project

Bruce Power is inviting residents across the region to learn more about its proposed Bruce C Project through a series of community information sessions in November.

The company is currently undergoing a federal integrated impact assessment for the project, which could see up to 4,800 megawatts of new nuclear capacity added at the Bruce Power site near Tiverton. The expansion, known as Bruce C, would build on the company’s existing operations, which already provide about 30 per cent of Ontario’s clean electricity.

Bruce Power says the new nuclear build would help meet growing electricity demand, support the economy, and provide well-paying jobs for decades to come.

“We’re excited about this opportunity for the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties,” said Weina Chong, Bruce Power Director, Regulatory Affairs, Bruce C Project. “Our ongoing Life-Extension Program and Project 2030 are securing the future of our existing units, and Bruce C provides a long-term opportunity to continue to provide clean energy and drive the local economy.”

If approved, the project could create more than 20,000 jobs nationwide during the design and construction phase, with an estimated 12,000 full-time equivalent jobs supported each year over its lifespan.

Residents can learn more at information sessions taking place in Goderich on November 4 at the Columbus Convention Centre, in Owen Sound on November 6 at Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Shore Room, located at 1900 3rd Ave E, and in Walkerton on November 12 at the Best Western Plus Grand Ballroom. Each session runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and begins with a presentation by Bruce Power, followed by an opportunity to speak directly with members of the project team.

Light refreshments will be available, and attendees will have a chance to enter a draw for an iPad.
