Bruce Power and partners donating $335K this holiday season

Bruce Power and its supplier partners are stepping up to meet growing community needs this holiday season, donating $335,000 to support local programs in Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties. With inflation and rising costs affecting families across the region, organizations that provide food, shelter, and essential winter clothing are seeking more resources than ever to help those struggling.

In celebration of Giving Tuesday, Bruce Power partnered with its employees, suppliers, the United Way of Bruce Grey, and community members to raise over $60,000 for more than 20 local toy drives and hamper programs. On top of that, each of 38 food banks in the area is receiving $2,000 to help counteract the growing impact of food insecurity.

Community meal programs in Chesley, Hanover, Walkerton, Owen Sound, Kincardine, and Port Elgin are sharing $50,000 to ensure local families have access to hot meals, while another $50,000 is being directed to housing support initiatives, benefiting the Safe n Sound drop-in centre in Owen Sound, the YMCA Emergency Shelter Program in Bruce County, and SOS Grey County.

Local schools and women’s shelters collaborated with Bruce Power to distribute $60,000 in grocery store gift cards, helping families meet their basic needs. Additionally, $40,000 worth of warm winter clothing was donated to Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid, Saugeen First Nation, and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.

“There are growing challenges in our communities making this time of year even more difficult for so many in Bruce, Grey and Huron,” said Maggie Tieman, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and External Affairs. “We are very thankful for the support of our supplier partners, employees and our community for helping make the holiday season brighter for our families across the region.”

These contributions underscore the pressing need for continued support of local organizations, ensuring that essential programs can meet demand and help families across the region enjoy a safer, warmer holiday season.
