Atwood teen ready to bike for a cause

An 18-year old Atwood teen is preparing for a 150 km fundraising bike ride to Collingwood on June 27th.

It's to raise money for the Children's Health Foundation. It provides support for organizations like Sick Kids Hospital.

Colin Williams joins MWO Sports on CKNX Friday at 6 p.m. to talk about the effort.

Williams says he originally announced his idea a couple of weeks ago. And it started with support from his school, Listowel District Secondary.

"So the way I started, I reached out to my principal at school and I told her what I was doing," said Williams. "And she thought it was a great idea. So we came up with a template to give to all of the teachers to tell students."

After the first day, there were was already $400 worth of donations made.

Since then he's been training.

"And I just have a trainer hooked up in my basement that I ride on until I can count on nice weather all week. So roughly 350 to 400 km a week I'm riding," noted Williams.

The support has been growing each day.

"I've been in touch with the hospital, the foundation and doctors there that I've had and they're showing support. And I think the Children's Health Foundation is hopefully going to be there on the ride on June 27th."

As of Thursday night, Williams' fundraising climbed over the $5,000 mark. He's set up a GoFundeMe page to collect donations.

MWO Sports on CKNX airs following the 6 p.m. news and you can listen on-line at cknx.ca.
