Owen Sound overpowers Sarnia in school day game

The Owen Sound Attack were ready for Wednesday's early start, racing out to a seven goal lead, ultimately knocking off the Sarnia Sting 7-3.

The Attack's win in the School Day game ended a four-game losing streak, putting the team back on top of the Midwest Division. Assistant coach Reagan O’Grady said the result was the product of refocusing on the team’s identity after a tough weekend.

"It started yesterday," said O’Grady. "We had a split practice and talked a lot about boxing out and getting net-front presence. For us, it was about getting back to our game. We lost our identity a bit over the weekend, and today we just wanted to get back to feeling good on home ice."

O’Grady also credited the atmosphere at the Bayshore, with the early puck drop drawing a loud crowd of local students.

"The 2,600 screaming kids played a big factor today," he said. "Once we got that first one, we really rode the wave."

Tristan Delisle headlined the day with a natural hat trick for Owen Sound in just over seven minutes of game time in the second period. The forward has a point in every game he's played this season.

Nicholas Sykora notched his 10th and 11th goals of the year as well. Michael Dec and Jake Crawford rounded out the scoring for the Bears.

Carter George stopped 26 of 29 shots to get the win.

Sarnia's offence arrived a little too late, with Beckham Edwards, Ryan Brown and Ben Pickell scoring in the third. The loss is Sarnia's third straight.
