The Sarnia and District Humane Society Society has teamed up with Blue Cross Veterinary Centre to provide cut-rate rabies shots Saturday for cats and dogs older than three months.
Public Health Inspector Michael Richardson says there's a legal requirement to have your dog or cat vaccinated for rabies in Ontario. He says vaccinating pets breaks the link between wild animals that can carry rabies and humans.
Richardson says rabies is spread through a bite or scratch from an infected animal.
He adds it's important to get your pet vaccinated, even if it's an indoor pet.
The cost is $25 per animal and will be administered from 10am until 4pm Saturday at the animal shelter on Exmouth St.
