A replica of one of the most famous tall ships in the world will drop anchor at Sarnia-Lambton's Tall Ship Celebration this summer.
The Nao Santa Maria -- the largest of three ships used by Christopher Columbus in his maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492 -- will participate in the event August 9 to 11.
Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Special Events Coordinator Vicky Praill said it will be the ship's first passage through this area.
"This ship was built a couple of years ago to celebrate the 525th anniversary of when Christopher Columbus came to America," said Praill. "It hasn't been in the Great Lakes until this year. So, we're really excited about it."
Praill said because of the calibre of ships they've secured, they've decided to move the event to Sarnia Harbour, just west of Centennial Park.
"The festival isn't going to change. We're still going to incorporate ARTZscape and Bluewater Border Fest. We're just moving the ships over to the harbour to accommodate these great vessels," said Praill.
Six other ships have been secured: The Bluenose II, Picton Castle, Empire Sandy, Dennis Sullivan, Fair Jeanne and Appledore IV.
Tickets to view all of the tall ships anchored, with optional upgrades for deck tours and rides aboard the Empire Sandy, can be purchased here.
