Council further extends overnight street parking

Overnight parking on city streets will now be allowed for eight months of the year.

Sarnia council has approved extending the summertime exemption for an additional month from April 1 until the end of November.

It wasn't unanimous though.

Councillor Terry Burrell thought the bylaw should be left as is.

"The gales of November can come early, which is then in October, so I think the fact that we allow October is pushing the envelope as far as we should," said Burrell.

Councillors Dave Boushy and George Vandenberg also voted against the extension.

Councillor Mike Stark was all for it.

"I think this is worth a trial," said Stark. "If we just look at the last couple of years in terms of weather, I think this is worth extending for the benefit of our citizens."

Council also voted unanimously to allow overnight on-street parking on New Year's Eve.
