The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is warning of the potential for minor flooding along the Lake Huron and St. Clair River shorelines.
Environment Canada has issued a Gale Warning for Southern Lake Huron.
The weather agency said winds out of the northwest are expected to gust to 65 km/h at around midnight before tapering off during the day Friday. Waves are predicted to build to up to three metres Thursday evening before subsiding to two metres on Friday afternoon.
Residents in the Old Lakeshore Road area in Bright's Grove, and along the Lake St. Clair shoreline are being told to expect sustained wind and wave action and possible erosion.
Flooding could also impact the Wallaceburg area due to high water levels on the Sydenham River and the chance of up to 20 millimetres of combined rain on Sunday and Monday. Minor flooding is likely in natural floodplain areas, parks and farm fields, with the potential for ponding.
Riverbanks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift-moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The conservation authority said it continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories should flood issues arise.
