Virtual Bingo Night to ease isolation during pandemic

Sarnia-Lambton residents are being encouraged to get their bingo daubers ready for some free virtual fun.

Lambton Elderly Outreach (LEO) and Ron Clark Motors, launched a weekly online Bingo Night during the COVID-19 pandemic, which goes every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

LEO CEO Bill Yurchuk said they've already distributed over 1,000 bingo cards and some great prizes.

"Quite honestly, it's just to provide a little bit of entertainment. There is a bingo game that comes with it, although it's not very formal and it wouldn't be like a bingo hall. We have prizes from local vendors that we give out, and it's just a fun, entertaining evening and it's just continuing to snowball."

Yurchuk said they typically have six or seven prizes each week, including one week where a bar fridge from Northend Appliance was up for grabs.

He said residents can get their free card by emailing bingo@lambtonelderlyoutreach.org.

"And when they do that, we email them back a bingo card, they're free, and the card is reusable every week, so once you have your card, you don't need to change it. Every card has a four or five-digit number on it, that's how we know if it's an actual bingo when you call it."

Yurchuk said they use Dave Burrows' YouTube channel to connect participants, and that the link can be found on their Facebook page.

He said it's a great way to combat isolation during the pandemic and beyond.

"We're going to continue to roll it as long as we have people in it, and in fact, when we're back to whatever normal looks like, we may try to move it into remote locations, such as restaurants and things like that."

Yurchuk said since launching Bingo Night last month, there's been a steady increase in participants each week.
