COVID cases up 46, LTC outbreaks declared in Sarnia-Lambton

Sarnia-Lambton's health unit reported 46 new COVID-19 cases and two new outbreaks at long-term care homes Saturday morning.

Lambton Public Health (LPH) in a release, said it's investigating after three residents and two staff at Sarnia's Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home and Retirement Home tested positive for the virus Friday.

The health unit also declared a COVID outbreak at Fiddick's Nursing Home in Petrolia after one staff tested positive for the virus the same day.

In it's daily update, LPH also reported 61 new resolved cases, dropping the active caseload to 206.

The health unit has reported 1,184 confirmed cases of the virus since March -- 737 cases have been reported over the past four weeks.

The number of active outbreaks locally is now at 19, up from 15 Friday, and the death-toll of 28 is unchanged since December 19.

Bluewater Health is reporting six COVID-positive patients in hospital, down one from Friday.

Lambton Public Health reminds the public that a long-term care or other communal living setting outbreak is declared when one or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 case in a staff member or resident and possible exposure to others in the setting has occurred.
