Construction activity in Sarnia is bouncing back nicely this year following a COVID impacted 2021.
City hall issued 73 permits in July, totalling $28.6 million, putting the yearly total at 393 permits, equaling $125.5 million.
The numbers are well ahead of July 2021, when just 41 permits were issued for a total of $5.2 million.
The biggest permit issued last month was an $8.4 million 'conditional foundation permit' at 725 Procor Drive. Kemco Engineering and Construction Ltd. is looking to construct a pre-engineered building to house equipment to paint rail cars.
Worley Parsons was issued a pair of permits for its facility at 1265 Vidal Street South. The company wants to build an $8 million tank farm, and $1.38 million motor control centre building.
Valvoline Instant Oil Change will be building a new three bay oil change facility at 1390 Exmouth Street for $1.74 million.
A permit for $1.3 million went to Agri-Urban Buildings Inc. for a pre-engineered structure with five bay doors and office space at 276 McGregor Side Road.
There were six permits issued for single-family dwellings in July, for a year-to-date total of 61, down from 68 during the same timeframe in 2021.
