Town hall planned to gauge interest in new Christian High School

A town hall style meeting is planned Monday to discuss the interest of opening a new Christian High School in Sarnia.

Sarnia Christian School Principal Len Smit said the meeting was planned after receiving local feedback.

"Our parent surveys that we do, one of the responses was that parents were looking for a Christian High School in the Sarnia area," said Smit.

Part of the reason, he said, is that some students are traveling great lengths right now to receive their secondary school education.

"Currently, there's a bus that leaves the parking lot at Sarnia Christian School in the morning and goes to London Christian High School."

Smit said parents are looking for alternative education and the latest figure he's heard is that one in four students in Ontario are now enrolled in private, or independent schools.

"There was a Christian High School in Sarnia that was quite viable, but it did close about 20-years-ago."

The meeting at Sarnia Christian School, at Exmouth Street and Pontiac Drive, will be held November 28 at 7 p.m.

It is open to the public, so anyone can attend.

The elementary school just completed its most recent renovation and addition.
