Cabin rebuild planned at Pinery Provincial Park

Pinery Provincial Park in Grand Bend is getting some upgrades.

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton has announced an investment to benefit campers for decades to come.

"I'm proud to say that we're investing $827,000 to revitalize the four cabins," said McNaughton. "This is important. The pinery is one of the best parks in all of Ontario and this will really help boost tourism in our local area."

The cabins, which accommodate five people each and come equipped with a queen bed and bunk bed, a kitchenette, microwave, mini fridge, gas barbecue and electric fireplace, will be rebuilt.

Similar plans to improve camper experiences have been announced at other provincial parks.

"Provincewide, Ontario Parks is receiving a significant investment, I think over $40 million dollars over the next couple of years to upgrade and maintain the parks," McNaughton added. "It's a priority for our government under the leadership of Premier [Doug] Ford to boost tourism, to encourage people to take local trips and support our parks."

McNaughton also highlighted the pinery's 10 group camping sites, car camping and a variety of activities including biking, birding and cross-country skiing.

"I think one of the benefits of the pandemic is that people are choosing places to visit here in Ontario and we encourage the people of our province to visit local tourist attractions including the parks across the province," he said.

McNaughton said every dollar spent at Ontario Parks, from annual passes to purchases from the online store, is re-invested into Ontario Parks to help create a better experience for visitors.
