Goat yoga in the Grand Bend area

A Grand Bend area yoga instructor is bringing back some of her horned and furry four-legged friends to an upcoming class.

Linda Weir is hosting goat yoga July 13 at Oakridge Family Campground in Northville. She hosted a similar class on June 15.

Weir, the founder of Expedition Inner Wisdom, said plain and simple, goat yoga is yoga with goats walking around. She also said it's something on a lot of people's bucket list.

"Just like people like to do yoga on the beach or yoga in the forest or at sunset or something like that, just being with the animals, being with nature, in and of itself, seems to have like a calming and appealing effect," said Weir. "Just that opportunity to have a personal interaction with these sweet, hairy representations of the animal kingdom."

Weir said she's taught hundreds of goat yoga classes at Laughing Goat Yoga Studio in Thorndale, and that a lot of participants have never done yoga or they haven't done it in a long time. "So what I've observed is that having the goats there seems to make the yoga less intimidating," she said. "Because they know it's got to be playful."

Weir said while there's no way to know what the goats are going to do, participants can expect an authentic yoga class. "Where the goats will do funny things and they can expect to feel playful and light-hearted and a little more connected to nature through these sweet little goats," she said.

Weir has been offering weekly yoga classes at the Northville campground for the past couple of years but this is the first year she's brought  the goats to the area.

Each class is $15 and they get going at 10 a.m.
