Municipality partners with Salvation Army and OPP to offer new Care Kits

North Perth has partnered with the Salvation Army and local OPP unit to offer Care Kits to those in need.

Janene Cameron, Community Developer and Support Worker for the municipality, says the funding for the kits came from Salvation Army, and the local Perth County OPP detachment will hand out the kits to vulnerable members of the community and those experiencing homelessness as a means of getting them needed resources. Cameron says the kits contain numerous useful items.

"So the kits have a map of North Perth that show all the resources in the area. Sunscreen, Gatorade, water, some snacks, a variety of that kind of stuff," Cameron explained.

The kits can be picked up at the local OPP detachment in Listowel or the municipal office, and can also be found at the Listowel Salvation Army.

With homelessness and housing becoming a more prominent issue, Cameron says the North Perth Homelessness Task Force wanted to do something more to try and ensure the community is being served in the best way possible.

"We're just trying to make sure the community has social services available to them, and they don't have to go elsewhere to reach those. So we're really trying to make sure that the community has access to all of those things that they need, alongside recreation, social services, etcetera," added Cameron.

Beyond getting ahold of a care kit, Cameron notes that many people reach out to her on behalf of someone else who may be in need of a particular service, and she says there are many spots to find information, including the North Perth website.

"There are resources on our website, but they also can reach out to me, as well. I have many contacts with many different services in this area, so I can kind of lead people in the right direction, and I have had calls from other service agencies or people trying to help somebody else out, just to kind of give them an overview of what's available in the area and who to contact," Cameron said.
