Lightning strike sparks barn fire

Damage is pegged at approximately $500,000 after a lightning strike reportedly caused a barn, full of straw bales, to go up in flames.

Plympton-Wyoming Fire Chief Scott Jordan said crews were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, to a barn located on Confederation Line, west of Plowing Match Road.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find the structure fully engulfed in flames but kept it from spreading to other areas.

No injuries were reported and no animals were harmed.

Jordan said the property owner's son witnessed the lightning strike, which caused the fire. Sarnia-Lambton was under a severe thunderstorm warning at the time.

Members of the Camlachie, Wyoming, and Plympton-Wyoming stations tackled the blaze. Petrolia was also called to assist with the water supply.
