Soo Greyhounds extend Sting losing skid

The visiting Soo Greyhounds defeated the Sarnia Sting 7-3 Monday to clinch a playoff spot.

The Soo scored three goals in 48 seconds in the first period to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second frame.

Sarnia's three goals came from Sean Doherty, Lukas Fischer and Zach Filak.

Sting netminder Nick Surzycia stopped 25 of 31 shots before being replaced midway through the third period by Karsen Chartier, who stopped one of two shots.

The Sting (22-29-4) are four points behind the Flint Firebirds for the eighth and final playoff spot in the OHL Western Conference.

With the victory, the Soo improves to 36-16-2-1, four-points back of idle Saginaw (39-14-0-1) in the race for first place in the West Division.

The Sting have now lost three in a row following back-to-back losses to the Firebirds.

Sarnia visits the Kitchener Rangers at 7 p.m. on Friday. You can catch the game live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM)
