Electrified brass knuckles among items seized in weapons investigation

Sarnia police officers made a shocking discovery when they arrested a man on weapons charges Sunday afternoon.

A backpack of weapons was found, allegedly containing brass knuckles capable of discharging an electrical shock, an assortment of replica pellet guns, and knives.

At around 12:10 p.m., police were called to an apartment near Colborne Road and Berkshire Road, to remove two people who didn't live there.

It's alleged a suspect was found hiding behind a closet door.

When told he was under arrest and ordered to come out, police allege the accused emerged from behind the door holding a machete and what appeared to be a handgun at his feet.

Officers tasered him and were able to place him under arrest after a physical struggle.

He was treated on scene by paramedics before being taken to Bluewater Health for minor injuries.

Police said at the time of this offence, the accused was subject to five court ordered weapons prohibitions.

Peter Thorpe, 45 of Sarnia is charged with the following and held for bail:

-Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

-Assaulting peace officer with weapon

-Resisting arrest

-Firearm: unauthorized possession

-Firearm: knowledge of unauthorized possession

-Prohibited Weapon: unauthorized possession

-Possession of a firearm or weapon contrary to prohibition order X7
