OLG doles out fourth quarter payments to Point Edward, Sarnia

The Village of Point Edward has cashed in on a good fiscal year after receiving just over $1.7 million from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting Starlight Casino.

The fiscal year spanned from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.

The village was recently awarded its fourth quarter payment (from January 1 to March 31) totaling $473,156.

Since the Point Edward casino opened in April 2000, the village has received just over $52.1 million.

Meanwhile, the City of Sarnia was presented with its fourth quarter payment of $106,545 for hosting Gateway Casinos.

Sarnia was given $419,400 for the fiscal year.

Since the gaming site opened in May 1999, the City of Sarnia has received just over $27.6 million.

“For decades, profits from gaming have been an important source of funding for Ontario communities, helping to deliver vital services and making a real difference for gaming host municipalities,” said Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy. "This is one of the many different ways Ontario continues to create good-paying, local jobs that play a critical role in supporting our economy, while ensuring a socially responsible gaming environment for people to enjoy.”

Payments made to host communities are based on a formula applied across all gaming sites in Ontario.
