Police Shooting In Port Huron Under Investigation

A joint Internal Affairs investigation by Port Huron police and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office is being conducted after a man was shot by police late Tuesday night.

Just before 11pm, the Drug Task Force had asked for help stopping a vehicle under surveillance in a heroin investigation.

After a marked city police cruiser initiated a traffic stop in the 900-block of Bancroft, police allege the driver of the suspect vehicle tried to run over a task force officer.

Two task force members fired two shots into the vehicle, striking the suspect.

A 24-year-old Port Huron man was transported by EMS to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Police say no Drug Task Force members suffered serious injury in the incident.

The Michigan State Police has also been called in as an outside agency to conduct an investigation into the shooting.
