A new record low temperature was set early Wednesday in Sarnia.
The mercury at Chris Hadfield Airport fell to -22.4 C (-8.3 F) at 1am.
Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell says that broke the previous mark for January 14 of -21.6 C set in 1999.
After a frigid start to 2015, he says the cold temperatures will moderate heading into the weekend.

In the meantime, Lambton Public Health's cold weather alert remains in effect for a third straight day with a forecast low of -18 C. (0 F)
The threshold is -15 C.
We're reminded to dress appropriately and limit exposure outdoors to avoid hypothermia and frost bite.
The alert will end Thursday as temperatures begin to return to more seasonal values.
