Canada Post Urged To Gauge Public Input

Canada Post representatives took a licking at Sarnia City Council last night.

They addressed the Crown Corporation's elimination of door to door delivery in favour of community mailboxes. Councillors raised numerous concerns including increased traffic, accessibility especially for seniors and job losses.

Bev MacDougall says the community boxes also attract graffiti.

Mayor Mike Bradley expressed disappointment that Canada Post will not be conducting public meetings to gauge community input about the new mailboxes and their locations.

Manager of Municipal Engagement at Canada Post Andrew Paterson says although public meetings will not be held, residents will receive a survey in the mail to complete and send back with their opinions. Paterson says it's still unclear when the new boxes will start being installed in Sarnia.

The process of eliminating door to door service is already underway in centres like London and St. Thomas.
