Protests Against Bill C-51 Saturday

Rallies against the Harper government's controversial anti-terrorism Bill C-51 were held Saturday in over 30 cities across Canada including Sarnia.

Six speakers were featured at an event starting at 10:30am at Sarnia City Hall. Organizer James Anger says the proposed legislation threatens the rights and freedoms of all Canadians. He says people suspected of terrorist activity could be detained for up to seven days without arrest.

Anger fears the bill would also define environmental, First Nations, and other activist groups as terrorists.

The legislation is slated for third reading when parliament resumes Monday.
