New Centennial Park Plans Unveiled

Demolition of the Dow People Place and relocation of the boat launch are components of phases two and three of the remediation and revitalization of Sarnia's Centennial Park.

City council will consider the proposed concept plan when it meets Monday.

The $5.5-million project includes relocating the boat launch and parking, shoreline work, demolition of the DOW People Place and construction of a new rotunda.

Mayor Mike Bradley says council will be asked to approve the plan, which will then go to the public for input.

Three public meetings are planned at Sarnia Bay Marina May 27, June 9 and June 29.

Much of the park has been closed since May 2013 following the discovery of asbestos and other contaminants.

A significant portion of the fencing around the great lawn at Centennial Park will be removed in June as part of phase 1 remediation.
