There will be an increased police presence across the province over the long Victoria Day weekend that heralds the start of the summer season.
Lambton OPP and Sarnia fire officials will be on high alert to ensure residents have a safe and fun Victoria Day celebration.
OPP will be patrolling both the roadways and waterways and setting up RIDE programs within the high traffic volume areas.
"As well, our marine vessels will be patrolling Lake Huron and the St. Clair river," says OPP Constable Chris Doupe.
On the roads, police will be targeting the 'Big Four' this weekend, including impaired operation by alcohol or drug, failure to use or improper use of seatbelts, aggressive driving, and distracted driving.
Every year, police give out a handful of tickets.
"Open liquor is common," says Doupe. "Being intoxicated in a public place. With regard to aggressive driving, you know, distracted driving, speeding, and use of handheld devices."
Victoria Day fireworks will also be popular on Monday, and Sarnia fire officials will be on duty.
Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus says you must be 18 years or older to operate fireworks.
"You want to make sure you keep a safe distance from streets, highways, buildings and other structures. The main thing is, it's got to be private property. You have to own the property in order to set off the fireworks for a private display," says Bus.
According to city by-laws, residents must save fireworks for the holiday Monday.
