A change in federal leadership in Canada could bode well for preventing a proposed Deep Geological Repository one km from the Lake Huron shoreline.
That's according to Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley who says "fresh minds" are needed to review the proposal.
Ontario Power Generation wants to bury 200,000 cubic metres of low to medium level radioactive material about 680 metres below ground near Kincardine.

Bradley says they're now waiting to see who Canada's new Environment Minister will be before take any further steps.
A petition called "Stop the Great Lakes Nuclear Dump" has already garnered over 87,000 signatures to date. Over 40 million people rely on the Great Lakes for drinking water.
