Concern About Aging Population On Roads

Lambton Public Health is concerned an aging population could lead to more drivers with cognitive impairment.

Health Promoter and Chair of Lambton Safe Roads Committee Kelley Elliott says cognitive impairment could be caused by a medical condition, prescription drugs, drug interactions and aging.

Elliott says healthcare providers can request to have the cognitive ability to drive reviewed.

Medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, sleep apnea and seizures, cardiovascular disease, depression, Alzheimer's and dementia can affect a person's ability to drive safely.
