Sarnia's Lowe's store is helping raise funds for residential 24-hour care clients at Community Living Sarnia-Lambton.
Throughout the month, Lowe's customers at the Quinn Dr. store will be asked for a $2 donation or more at cashier checkouts to help build a backyard sanctuary at a home on Euphemia St.
Employment Transitions Coordinator Laura Stokley says the young men living there "are all medically fragile, and require 24-hour care."
"Because they don't get to be out and about in the community as much as some of the other people through Community Living, this backyard is kind of their escape, their little paradise," she says.
The plans currently include building a deck and shed that is decorated with planters, a BBQ, and lounge area.
Stokley says the Lowe's cashiers will have educational pamphlets on hand to help let customers know where their donations are going.
The hope is to raise $5,000.
The fundraiser is part of Lowe's Canada Heroes program benefiting communities at all 42 locations across the country.
Lowe's Canada will match up to 50% of all funds raised, of up to $2,000 per store.
