Legionnaires Season Comes To An End

The Sarnia Legionnaires season has come to an end following a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Vipers in LaSalle in game seven of their GOJHL quarter final series Sunday night.

The Vipers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Owen Lalonde but Sarnia's Sam McCormack tied the game 1-1 just eight seconds later. Liam MacDougall scored shorthanded at the 18:43 mark to pull LaSalle ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period.

MacDougall, and Connor Rosaasen scored second period goals for the Vipers to put them ahead 4-1. Ryan Trottier pulled the Legionnaires to within two goals off a feed from Hunter Tyczynski 4:39 into the third frame. That's as close at the Legionnaires would come, as MacDougall completed the hat trick with an empty net goal to make the final 5-2.

The Legionnaires went scoreless on two powerplay chances and killed off all five penalties taken. Sarnia goalie Shayne Battler made 25 saves on 29 Viper shots, while Paolo Battisti stopped 30 of 32 Legionnaires shots.

The Vipers will face the London Nationals in the semi-finals while Chatham squares off against Leamington.
