Parity Policy Approved At Blue Water Bridge

The Michigan Department of Transportation has approved a new toll parity policy at the Blue Water Bridge.

Effective this Friday, April 1, those traveling from the U.S into Canada and paying with Canadian funds, will be charged $4.

Spokesperson Jocelyn Hall says the $1 increase is based on the current average daily exchange rate.

She says the new policy allows them to adjust the rate twice a year in April and October.

"The biggest impact that a change like this will make is for Canadian residents who are travelling back and forth across the border using the Blue Water Bridge, so that is an unfortunate downside," says Hall.

"But, the benefit of having a parity policy in place as opposed to just making a long term toll rate adjustment is that should things change, there's potential to see that rate come back down."

Also beginning Friday, the toll, in Canadian funds, crossing into the U.S at the Blue Water Bridge, will be $4 up from the current $3.50.

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited is also eliminating the sale of tokens, to be replaced with a commuter discount program in the near future.
