UPDATE: Suncor Death Not Believed To Be Work-Related

Ontario's Ministry of Labour continues to investigate a death at Suncor's Sarnia refinery Wednesday night but it is not believed to be work-related.

Spokesperson Janet Deline says they were notified of the incident Thursday morning and were awaiting word from the coroner's office on the official cause of death.

"At this point we do have an inspector who attended the scene so our investigation is ongoing until we do get that final confirmation," she says.

The age or sex of the worker has not been released.

Suncor spokesperson Nicole Fisher says, "To the best of our knowledge there is no indication that this is an occupational fatality."

"We are deeply saddened by this and our first thoughts are with the family and co-workers of the worker," says Fisher. "We have started our employee family assistance program and counsellors are available on site for employees."
