Students Mark No Tobacco Day

125 Students from King George VI Public School got a first hand look at the environmental impact of cigarettes during World No Tobacco Day Tuesday.

Lambton Public Health Promotor Ashlyn Brown says the students picked up over 2,500 cigarette butts during a 30 minute span at Canatara Park.

Brown says during the event they recognized the Sarnia Legionnaires as one of their Tobacco Free Champions.

She says its important for kids to have tobacco free role models to look up to.

"It was really great to see the Legionnaires there as leaders in the community," says Brown. "We named them as one of our Tobacco Free Champions, so kids got to see them, take photos and talk to them."

The Legionnaires partnered with Lambton Public Health last season to develop a tobacco free policy.

Also recognized as Tobacco Free Champions: -Bluewater Health -Lambton Kent District School Board -St. Clair Catholic District School Board -Grant Lee, the former smoker continues to be smoke free
