Rainfall Amounts Varied Significantly In Lambton

Rainfall amounts varied significantly in Lambton County Thursday. Kevin Marriott says some farmers got too much rain while others hardly got any. The Lambton County delegate for the Grain Farmers of Ontario says some areas were hit hard. "The rain varied all the way from not enough in a few areas, to extremely too much in others," says Marriott. "The corner of Churchill and Mandaumin Rd, I heard got over four inches."

He says that much rain fall in such a short period can do a lot of damage.

"Causes a lot of ponding, which will suffocate corn and soy bean plants. There's also a lot of run off which cuts the top soil, and takes it with it to the drainage ditches."

Marriott says long term effect of run off can be bad both financially and environmentally.

He says area crops were in pretty good shape prior to Thursday's rainfall.
