The field at Errol Russell Park is being named in honour of a long time baseball player who had a lasting impact on the game locally. Stan Slack, who passed away in 2013, was known as the patriarch of Sarnia Braves Minor Baseball and played nine minor league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Braves. Midget Braves Coach Jim Bigras says it's a nice way to honour Stan's legacy. He was instrumental in starting the Braves program back in the late 90's. "I worked with Stan for 15 years, he was the Manager of my ball club," says Bigras. "You become more than just friends when you spend the amount of time I spent with Stan. In a lot of ways he's like a second father to me, he's a major influence in how I coach." The dedication ceremony for Stan Slack field is being held at 3pm Saturday at Errol Russell Park during the Stan Slack Wood Bat Classic. The Braves will play at 1:15pm and 5:45pm Friday at Errol Russell. Action continues throughout the weekend, with games also scheduled at Blackwell Park.
