Real Estate Board President Encouraged By Jump In Listings

Sarnia-Lambton's real estate market was back above the $40-million mark in August.

176 properties worth $41.6-million sold, up from July's $39-million.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says the number of sales for the month were down 10% but year-to-date are still up 2%.

She's really encouraged to see that MLS listings were up 37% in August.

"They were significantly down last month, now significantly up this month," says Baker. "I think a lot of people were just taking summer vacations and were of the mindset of waiting until the end of July to get their houses on the market. That's definitely happened, because in August we did see that number come back up again."

There are currently 640 active listings in the MLS system with 314 of those being single family homes, 218 of which were new in August.

The average sale price so far this year is nearly $232,000 up from $220,000 last year.

The highest number of residential home sales was 34 sales in the $150,000 to $200,000 range.

There were 30 sales in the $200,000 to $250,000 range and five homes sold in the $500,000 to $550,000 range.
