Faith Abbey Completes Third Annual Walk

Faith Abbey received a hero's welcome at Sarnia's King George VI Public School Thursday afternoon.

The 12-year-old cancer survivor completed her third annual "Faith's Footsteps" walk, leaving London four days ago.

Donations toward childhood cancer awareness were collected along the route.

Faith's dad Dave Abbey says they've been overwhelmed by the support this year.

"About a month before our walk, Faith hit her goal of $20,000 so we're hoping to get to $30,000 and I think we are going to be really close this year," says Abbey.

The students and staff at King George greeted the group with cheers and signs of support.

Dave Abbey got emotional thanking them for the welcome.

"This year was more of a celebratory walk for us, because this is Faith's 10th year in survival," he says. "The support along the way was fantastic. Through London, Komoka, Kilworth, Mt. Brydges, Strathroy, Plympton-Wyoming, Warwick... just unbelievable support this year. It's been fantastic."

Abbey says they may take a break from the annual trek next year.

"There's been talk of taking a year off. Faith is going into high school next year, so we'll concentrate on that," he says.

Faith raised over $43,000 the two previous years.
