Hot Summer Of 2016 Ends

The hot, dry summer of 2016 comes to an end Wednesday.

Fall officially arrives at 10:21am EDT Thursday but it will still feel like summer with a high of 29 C (84F) and a humidex of 35 C (95 F).

Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says September has been unseasonably warm so far.

"In fact, so far this month, we've had average temperatures of about 19.5 C," says Coulson. "The long term average temperature for the whole month of September is 16.4 C, so we've been pretty much three degrees warmer than normal on average, which is quite significant."

Coulson says forecast models suggest that the autumn season, overall, will be warmer than usual.

As for the upcoming winter, Coulson says it's too early to accurately predict but the El Nino that made for milder than normal conditions last year is no longer a factor.
