Junior Hockey Returns To Petrolia

Junior hockey returns to Petrolia Thursday evening as the Flyers host the Mooretown Flags at the Greenwood Recrecreation Centre. Both teams are in search of their first wins of the season. Flyers General Manager Dennis Meston says they have plenty of local kids, with 10 players on the roster from Petrolia Minor Hockey. The team only has two players not from Lambton County, both where with the Flyers last season in Alvinston.

Meston says they're hoping to bring back the tradition of junior hockey in town. "I was in high school watching it when it was junior C and it was packed, there was a lot of people watching it," says Meston. "We're hoping to get that atmosphere back with the high school here in town and stuff like that." After nearly 30 years in Alvinston, the Flyers moved to Petrolia in the off season, returning junior hockey to Petrolia for the first time since the Jr B Jets moved to Forest following the 2007-2008 seaosn.

After tonight's game, the Flyers will travel to Mooretown Saturday for the Flags' home opener.
